The main monument that Cox conserves is the castle of Ayala or of Santa Bárbara, of Moslem origin, declared like one of the oldest of the Valencian Community and of Spain that at the moment is restored. The castle of Cox is situated on the top of a mountain about 80 meters high, which, thanks to the cut produced for the passage of the old National Highway Alicante-Murcia, forms a small island in a foothill northeast of the Sierra Of Callosa, presiding over the population. It offers a beautiful view of the Vega Baja del Segura and on its slopes and peaks have been archaeological remains of all cultures without interruption from the Bronze Age to today, with a special Iberian, Roman and medieval presence.
