RAMBLA SALADA ROUTE

rambla

Aqueducts, canalizations, births of salt, water pools, Black Barron, saltwater ponds and a geological and environmental diversity of great importance. The aqueducts and canalizations, the architecture of water, allow us to know how man has always tried to collect and store water for its different uses, especially in these semi-arid areas and with little rainfall. In the tour we will observe different types of rocks and minerals: limestones, sandstones, gypsum, marls, ophiates.

The mineral variability and erosion due to the flow of torrential waters, between girders and meanders make the Rambla Salada a unique environment. Walking along the channel and the rambla with the white bed of salt is really beautiful. The upwelling of water, filled with salt, comes from the contact of impermeable materials (clays, salts and gypsum) with other permeables (sandstones and limestones). The water, when filtered, causes that, in its subterranean route, drag and dissolve the salt that exists in the impermeable materials, blowing to the outside salty water. The Black Barron is a rocky formation excavated by man to prevent avenues and floods and to be able to channel the water with less danger and strength. It is a thematic route of great environmental, geological and patrimonial interest.
